Preface

The sector of commercial vehicles is very heterogeneous. There is the leading branch of the trucks. But also busses as well as agricultural and construction vehicles belong to that sector. And one should not forget the many kinds of special vehicles like those for forestry and winery, road cleaning and intralogistics.

However, the technical challenges to these products are similar in many aspects. Beside the long-term requirements for higher reliability and robustness as well as safety for humans and environment, lower costs for purchase and operation of the vehicles are top of the list. Modern computer aided simulation tools help to fulfill these needs as well as on board assistance and diagnosis tools.

The energy revolution forces the industry to think about new concepts for drive train and working machine. There is no branch where electrification of the vehicles is not an issue. New materials and production methods allow on one hand to build lighter and less energy consuming vehicles and on the other hand to better adopt the production to higher varieties and smaller lot sizes.

All these items and more shall be addressed on the 4th International Commercial Vehicle Technology Symposium in Kaiserslautern, Germany. We hope that many guests will attend the symposium in Kaiserslautern and we promise to make their stay as pleasant as possible not least by offering an attractive evening program and excellent food. We, the organization team and the program committee, are looking forward to numerous submittals to our five main topics of the symposium.
